STORY
George, a history professor, and his wife Martha return home late after a faculty party. What begins as a late-night drink with a younger couple quickly escalates into a volatile night of alcohol-fueled psychological games, emotional confrontation, and escalating conflict. As the evening progresses, long-buried tensions surface, and the fragile illusions within both marriages begin to collapse, ultimately exposing a devastating shared truth at the center of George and Martha’s relationship.
CHARACTERS
GEORGE (46): Associate professor of history. Intelligent, dry, and observant, George is outwardly subdued but highly strategic and psychologically sharp. He uses wit and manipulation as tools for self-protection and control. Beneath his sarcasm lies deep emotional pain and a complex, enduring attachment to Martha.
MARTHA (52): Daughter of the college president and George’s wife. Bold, charismatic, and commanding with a sharp tongue and strong presence. She dominates social interactions but is driven by emotional frustration, vulnerability, and a deep need for connection.
NICK (28): A young biology professor new to the college. Ambitious, controlled, and career-focused. As the night unfolds, he becomes increasingly entangled in George and Martha’s psychological games, revealing a willingness to compromise his values for advancement and influence.
HONEY (26): Nick’s wife. Initially naïve and socially reserved, she gradually reveals quiet perceptiveness beneath her innocence. As she drinks and the evening intensifies, she becomes increasingly aware that something is deeply unstable beneath the surface of the gathering.
